We’re a Better Business (work in progress)

Studio 91 is now a proud member of the Better Business Network, a growing movement to connect and support purpose-driven businesses. It does not mean we’re perfect, not by any stretch, but it does mean we care about people and planet before profit. Our mission is to create video content that’s good for people, good for platforms and good for the planet.

I’ve been in touch with the brilliant Hannah Cox and her team for a couple of years now. Mostly through networking and mutual connections. (Thankfully Manchester is spoilt for choice when it comes to meet-ups for purpose-driven businesses. At some point I’ll do another blog on that subject…)

My first proper introduction to the Better Business Network was at the mind-blowing Better Business Summit in January 2023. An amazing day mingling with like-minded people, having spontaneous chats about how we can change things in our own teams and beyond, and hearing from big players like Patagonia and Faith In Nature. Since then I’ve been considering signing us up as a fully paid-up member, and now we’re in.

What does membership involve?

There’s a load of great perks that come along with membership, like exclusive member events, free Carbon Literacy training, and co-working passes at the team’s gorgeous Manchester office. And beyond that, it’s the chance to rub shoulders with people at all stages of their better business journey. I’ve already had some really helpful chats with other network members. Like just the other day, I had a great talk with Nick from Koolstof. He shared how they report back to clients on the carbon footprint of individual video projects.

I’d definitely recommend signing up for the Better Business Network if you’re interested in doing business better. It doesn’t matter where you’re at on that journey, it’s just about wanting to go in the right direction. Also check out the new #BetterBusinessPioneers campaign, which is taking over billboards across the UK. Its aim is to highlight the ways people can make a difference.

I've been producing digital content since 2012, primarily for flagship BBC brands like Blue Peter and BBC News. Now I run Studio 91 Media, a video production agency on a mission: to create content that is good for platforms, good for people and good for the planet. When I'm not behind a camera, I can often be found playing cello at weddings or riding a three-wheeled cargo bike called Babs.
